Bengali Kojagari Lakshmi Puja Samagri List (ফর্দ) 2026: 45 Items Every Household Needs

Kojagari Lakshmi Puja falls on 25 October this year — the night Ma Lokkhi is believed to visit homes that stay awake. Here's the correct Kolkata muhurat, the complete 45-item samagri ford, and the puja vidhi to welcome her in properly.

Pradosh Kaal puja — most households begin here

After sunset, 25 October

Purnima Tithi
11:55 AM, 25 Oct to 9:41 AM, 26 Oct
Nishita Kaal (most auspicious)
Around midnight, 25–26 October

Kojagari Lakshmi Puja falls on the full moon night of Ashwin, four days after Vijaya Dashami. Most Bengali households perform the puja in the evening (Pradosh Kaal), once the home is cleaned and the alpona drawn — though Nishita Kaal, around midnight, is considered the moment Lakshmi is believed to actually visit. Confirm the exact Kolkata timing with your local Panchang or purohit, since Tithi timings shift slightly by city.

Why Is It Called "Kojagari"?

"Kojagari" comes from "Ko Jagarti" — meaning "who is awake?" Legend holds that on this full moon night, Goddess Lakshmi walks the earth asking exactly that, and blesses with wealth and prosperity whoever she finds awake, alert, and welcoming.

This is why Kojagari Lakshmi Puja is traditionally an evening-into-night affair — alpona drawn at the door, lamps lit, and the household staying awake in devotion rather than rushing through the ritual.

Kojagari Lakshmi Puja: Vidhi

The ritual is simple compared to Durga Puja, but the details matter — follow these steps in order.

  1. Clean the home and draw the alpona

Clean the house thoroughly, then draw alpona at the entrance and around the puja space, with Lakshmi's footprints leading in from the door.

  2. Set up the ghot and idol

Place the ghot with mango leaves and a coconut on top, and set the idol or Sara on its asana, on a bed of paddy stalks.

  3. Take the sankalp

Light the diya and take the intention to perform the puja with devotion for the household's prosperity.

  4. Offer puja samagri

Offer chandan, akshata, durba, tulsi, flowers and betel leaves to the goddess, one by one.

  5. Read the Lakshmi Panchali

Recite or listen to the Lakshmi Panchali as a family, before the bhog is offered.

  6. Offer the bhog

Offer khichuri, labra, payesh, luchi, naru, moa and fruits, then perform the aarti with the conch and bell.

  7. Stay awake through the night

Keep the diyas lit and the household awake into Nishita Kaal, when Lakshmi is believed to visit — this is the "Kojagari" itself.
